An iconic thai restaurant in the area, one that's been my family's go-to for years and years! Notable items: - Chicken satay here is pretty good, the peanut sauce is great, the cucumber they give is also nice and crunchy! The bread they give with it is kinda dry though. Some say the satay is dry which i can understand but i personally like it! - Tom kha gai soup from here is my #1 favorite soup of all time. So hearty, creamy, amazing spices, lemongrass flavor- I could eat it all day. Highly recommend ordering this from here, they prepare it the best out of the places I've been. - Ka-ree crab meat fried rice is so good and flavorful on its own, though having it with yellow curry or panang curry elevates it. Or peanut sauce too! My father, who enjoys crab, thinks there could be more crab meat. I dont care for seafood much so i am happy with the amount they have. The fried garlic on top really completes this dish texture and flavor wise. Some people complained about the pineapple fried rice in their reviews, so i would recommend getting this instead! - Crab noodles (jun pad poo) has a nice moderately spicy kick to it, great texture to the thin noodles, and the crab is enjoyable as well, similar to the crab fried rice preparation. - Panang curry is great here, it is sweet and the chicken is a nice texture. We often get ka ree, or yellow curry, and the potato and chicken is great as well as the curry itself, being a bit sweet but not as much as the panang curry. Id say the quality of the yellow curry is usually consistently good! A must try if you order from here - Gai kra praw, or basil chicken, has a nice spice to it and is SUPER flavorful!! If you want chicken on the drier side (not a curry, basically) order this!! - tofu khee mao is a nice chili garlic stir-fried tofu that goes well with fried rice!! The texture of the tofu is very good, on the firm side. I will say the garlic in that can be intense, as well as the oil, but in moderation its a great dish with lots of flavor in the tofu (it also tastes great as leftovers the longer you leave the tofu sitting in the sauce) But definitely ask for less oil, or, if you do not do well with oily food- i would recommend not getting this. Service: The service is quick as it can be for a dine-in thai restaurant! The servers do all seem to be in a rush everytime we dine there, which does disrupt the experience a bit as others have said in their reviews, unfortunately. It definitely wasn't always like this. However, we are usually accommodated in our requests and I personally prioritize food over politeness, so I'm not bothered. Ambiance: They have a lot of seating, though there was a room that seems closed now which used to be open in the past. The decor is definitely noticeably old and has not been updated, but it personally gives me nostalgia. The tables are always cleaned. Note: The prices have gone up and the portions have reduced somewhat as years have passed, which seems to be a norm with several food locations. It is a bit unfortunate, though I understand why this happens. Overall, I know some people have mixed opinions on this location, especially compared to the new location- but as someone who has been going here ever since I was little, this is actually one of my favorite if not my number one favorite restaurants. There is a typical order i get here that i highly recommend !! I might be biased in this review, but this will remain my go-to spot unless something changes significantly in my favorite items.
This place has been here forever and I can't believe I've only tried it for the first time recently. This might be my new favorite Thai spot. It's a sweet, homey place with attentive service. Everything we ordered was amazing. Tom kha was deliciously creamy and flavorful. The spicy beef salad had a great citrusy taste and kick to it. We got spicy and I thought it would be spicier, but it was a perfect balance of flavor and spice. The other dishes were amazing - honestly just thinking about the next time I'll come back to try different dishes!
Very impressed with the efficiency of the staff here! All while providing service that is attentive and thoughtful. We ordered three dishes - pad thai, crab fried rice, and green curry with beef, as well as one dessert - mango sticky rice. Our favorite dish was the crab fried rice. The crab pieces were a good size and had lots of flavor. The other dishes were good too. The Pad Thai noodles were chewy and springy. I just wish that the dish came with peanuts and the portion size was bit bigger for the price. The green curry had a gentle coconut flavor mingled with the vibrant curry spices. Don't skip on the mango sticky rice! It came with roasted mung beans which added a nice crunchy texture to the sweet stickiness of the rice and the smoothness of the ripened mango. Decor is a little older, but still charming. They have lots of other Thai dishes that we'll have to come back and try! This is the OG Krung Thai (the other one nearby is a different restaurant with a similar name!). One of the workers shared that the family who owns this restaurant have owned it for 20+ years. Definitely a gem worth keeping around!
Just what I needed when I was looking for Thai food!! It was a Saturday night and we tried going to the new one, but it was packed. So we drove to the old one and I was surprised to find that there wasn't many people. We got seated and I was craving papaya salad, boat noodles and spicy green curry. So that's what we got. I'm not sure if the soup we got was actually boat noodle soup, but it tasted like it so I'm gonna assume I ordered the right thing (haha). We ordered everything Thai hot, but unfortunately, it wasn't as spicy for me so I got some dried chili flakes on the side! The papaya salad was amazing! Crispy papaya in a pungent, sour, and salty sauce with salty crabs. I prefer Laos style since it's less sweet and has a stronger fermented taste. The noodle soup tasted amazing. There was so much depth to the broth. It's very fragrant because of all the different spices, which really adds to the dish. This one does have celery in it, so if you don't like celery, then don't get it. Otherwise, I highly recommend if you've never had this before. The green curry was a classic! Although, I'm not sure how I feel about peas being added. I guess, it's okay? It doesn't change the taste but I was just a little thrown off when I saw peas. You do have to order rice on the side. Last but not least, the classic mango sticky rice. Chewy rice with sweet mango. Can't go wrong.
Loved it. We picked up some Thai here while visiting family and actually ended up coming back within the week. We ordered Yellow Curry, Green Curry, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Kra-Praw Fried Rice, and Pad See Ew Noodles. We also ordered Mango Sticky Rice. The food was AMAZING! Normal portion sizes. And they didn't skimp on the mango. Our bill was about $120 so about $20 per item. It seems like that is pretty typical for the area. We thought it was pricey but then it was so delicious that we went back even with the prices. We ordered takeout both times and the service was great. Straight to business and speedy pickup. It's at a great location but hard to find since it's behind a gas station. But this hidden gem is worth it! Plenty of parking behind the gas station. This is the ORIGINAL Krung Thai. Be careful as there is a NEW location by the same name (but different vibe) located just a few blocks up on the same street.
Always my go to Thai spot when I was living in the area and now that I'm back for work every so often, still my go to spot. Not as busy as the other location but you get the same food and more attentive service. Food is amazing here. And the mango sticky rice to top the meal is even better. We shared all these dishes and still had plenty to take home: Tom yum soup with shrimp. Pad see ew Basil chicken Penang curry Pineapple fried rice. Sooo good!!! And will always come back.
I love this place, it just personally had good memories here. The food here taste amazing but the serving size is a bit lacking especially for the price. Service here for me has usually been pretty good but sometimes can be lacking. The place is also a bit older antique vibes and there parking in the back.
